Recording Instruments with Metronome Time

I have been searching through the help files and I also tried the knowledge base.

As an example I have this scenario:
Metronome is playing through preview mixer track 5
Guitar is playing through mixer track 1
I am recording whilst the metronome is playing, but I cannot get the metronome to align during playback.
I know I must be missing some sort of step.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
