Compensating for room acoustics in software

I know that my "mixing environment" is lacking, which is probably caused by the fact it's a small bedroom with little furniture. I use high quality HiFi speakers and amp.

So my question is, did anyone have success with doing some acoustic correction in software? It's the cheapest "investment" in better sound by far, if it works.

Attached is the result from trying to find and dampen the resonance frequencies in my room. Did it by ear since I don't have a good condenser mic. Does this look remotely realistic? (I personally think it helped on the sound, though it's easy to be fooled)
