Pushing your mix to commercial loudness
I just finished a track and was trying to match the loudness of commercial tracks. The refference track I used peaked at -6,5 RMS in the Voxengo Span analyzer and it still sounded clear. I only got my track to peak at -9,0 RMS and then it started to distort. How is it possible to push up the gain so much without distorting? Are there thing you can do while mixing? Do you need to do specific things during "mastering"?
