Piano Roll beats / bars question!!

Okay, so I will explain this the best I can. I made a 16 bar fill for one of my drum beats.....Its your typical fill where the kick starts off slow, then speeds up etc......So I hear a lot of cool build-ups where towards the end, the kick drum is so fast it almost sounds like a machine gun. So the only way I figured to do this was by using the piano roll instead of the step sequencer. So I managed to get the kick to sound how I wanted by zooming in on the piano roll and making the notes smaller. The problem I am having now, is every time I open the piano roll (even for other sounds ) its as if the notes dont line up properly. Here are a couple screenshots to show what I am talking about. Notice the screenshot of the piano roll. If I try to pull the note, it pulls it WAY to far unless i zoom in each time. Its driving me nuts!
