Ways around inaccurate Auto PDC

Here is how I compensate for plugin latency! I think it can be useful reading.

PDC - A bit of a hassle once you realize that auto plugin delay compensation does not really compensate for the timing difference that third party plugins introduce. I did some testing's and would like to share the information so that fellow producers can find their way around it.

I suspected the auto delay compensation to not work properly. I tried It by assigning sytrus to a channel, bussing it onto another channel where I loaded third party VSTs without pushing the settings (like a limiter without limiting and a filter without filtering). Both channels were assigned to the master. If the effects were turned off, the signal was perceived as "louder", however, when enabling the plugins on the second channel (no settings to colour the sound, just to introduce latency), the audio started to phase and sound smeared.

I tried to do the same thing in patcher and it works flawlessly there. So patcher seems to have a more accurate auto pdc built in. Guess that will be my workaround till the mixer behaves similar.

This is an interesting way of doing it too, given that the plugin have a wet/dry function http://howtomakeelectronicmusic.com/how ... -fl-studio

Hope that helps! Have you got a different way of compensating the latency that plugins introduce?
