(Urgent) Testing an Expression Pedal

Hello,

I've recently bought a MIDI-Keyboard (Novation Impulse 49) and a sustain and and an expression pedals (M-Audio EX-P, switch set to "other"). I have extremely little time lately and haven't tested everything properly, but when my friend visited me, we found out that the keyboard is broken - while playing it for a longer time and faster, sometimes it sustains some notes forever after the keys are beying let go of (it couldn't have been a problem of FL Studio, right?). The sustain pedal was not in use, but I tested it and it was working. Now I have to send in the keyboard for repairs, but first I need to test the expression pedal.

I have all IL plugins, Absynth and a lot of free plugins. None of which changed their sound when I moved the expression pedal. Which made me think, I have to assign it to something manually. Now, I asigned it to some knobs and when the pedal is maxed out, the knob moves to 5-6 (first time it was 6, later 5). Am I doing something wrong? How do I use it properly?
