Alternative to Steinberg Padshop Pro

Hello all,
does anyone know a good free alternative to Steinberg's Padshop Pro. I was watching some videos online and I saw Padshop Pro and was amazed. I want to try a free alternative first though because I don't know how much I would use it and if it would be worth the cost.
