effects presets folder

Hi I need some help with where to store effects presets for fast callup. I created a folder where I keep all my vstis and so forth. I also store it in there. I do this because I dont know where else to put them to find them. The problem is they are not kept with he plugin for fast recall. Any suggestions? Also what happens if I put them in an Image Line folder and then do an update? Do I lose them?
