mixer or driver? new beta changes

Hi all,

Just a quick one I've noticed that a change to FL studio is mixer as default playback setting in in the audio tab, and I would like to know more about it as on the website it says it may need to be avoided on certain audio devices. I'm very clueless with this sort of thing and just wanted to see if any one knew more about it.
