Making "Oscilloscope Music" in FLS

You may have seen this: Jerobeam Fenderson designs sounds and songs which create cool visualizations when sent through an Oscilloscope.



Per his website, " The audio signal is fed directly into the oscilloscope, where vector graphics are drawn with sound." So, to make something interesting visually, wave shape, freq, panning, phase, etc. of the source sound needs to be very particularly chosen.

His stuff uses serious math for beautiful shapes and spirals, and also some 3rd party software to translate blender graphics -> wav files -> vector plots.

Super Geeky. I love it. Figuring out how to do this with FLS is my new obsession.

Since I don't know blender, and I don't own an oscilloscope, I thought it would be a good sound design challenge to use ONLY FLS native synths and effects, and chose Sytrus to get my tweak on.

After a few hours (and staying up way too late on Thursday,) I built a number of Sytrus presets which render shapes nicely and are still musically useful. Here's short video with the visuals:



No audio in my video, as I'm just showing the sample primitive shapes. Quite simple, but with some automation and effects (volume, pan, and stutter are quite useful,) they can also be combined with each other to pretty interesting effect.

I did finish a tune as well, check it out if you like in Song Exchange.
