FPC and Note Color

I would like to use Note Color/MIDI Channel to control alternate drum sample articulations (e.g. Ride bell or edge) in FPC. Is this possible? I know I can route the piano roll through VFX Color Mapper in Patcher, but doing that removes the note names from FPC, which are very useful for me when working with drums. Thanks for the help.
