fruity multiband comp gain reduction meter. Why is it weird?
Maybe I'm just a weirdo, but for some reason, I'm not really grasping how to read the gain reduction meter on the fruity multiband comp. Most GR meters for compressors will display the actual value for gain reduction. (e.g. just 2-3db for light compression) But the multiband comp doesn't give you the actual value. When I hover my mouse over it, it shows something like "24% (-12.5db)" which I know is bogus, because when I'm using it, I know I'm not actually apply 12.5db of gain reduction. There's no way. Not only that, but the more compression I apply, lower the displayed gain reduction gets. Why is the top of the GR meter 0db? Wouldn't this mean I'm expanding the signal, not compressing? It just seems confusing to me. Is there something I'm missing?
