Mastering an EP

I'm probably getting ahead of myself (actually, I know I am), but what is the easiest way to go about mastering an EP or album. I've noticed that most EPs or albums, commercial or indie have similar instruments and timbre across the release. So if I were to make an EP am I wanting to mix and master the first track and then just change the composition using the first track as a template for each new song so it is different yet sounds the same. I am really at a loss. To anyone who has released an EP, please spread your knowledge this way.

Thanks!
