Mixer fader going haywire after I link to controller! Help please!

I'm trying to use a peak controller to sidechain, as well as to sidechain frequencies with an eq, and for some reason, when I click link to controller on the fader or band I want to use, the fader jumps up and down, and the window closes down immediately. Not sure what to do it about it, i've tried everything.
