Mic volume too low????

Hello, I'm trying to do something very simply yet it's causing me a lot of down time and issue's. All I'm trying to do is drag an mp3 instrumental into FL Studio then record vocals over the beat. I can manage to get it to work but when I play back the recorded track the mic vocals are very low and the beat is too loud? I've tried recording vocals on it's own and the volume is very quite. Please help, it'd be sincerely appreciated.
