Recording options

I realize I have been away for awhile and I would never want to slow down progress but, the new recording options in FL 8 are slowing me down. I used to arm the little disk icon at the bottom of my mixer track, find the folder where I wanted to save the wav file and hit record......simple. Now every time I have to choose "record as Audio File to playlist" or something to that effect. Is there any way to get rid of this dialogue and make my choice the default for recording? I don't mind going back to an earlier version of FL but would it be problematic to register an old version since that whole process has changed? I wouldn't mind getting back into 5 or 6 (whichever version had the first FPC with the mixing board on it). I promise I'm not trying to complain- I love FL and it does keep getting better, my workflow keeps getting slower though (the pattern clips thing-ugh). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
p.s. please don't take away pattern blocks. Any suggestions on the recording options though?
