I find that while I don't have trouble learning what all the knobs and buttons on a synth do, I don't really have an appreciation for what components tend to lead to what kind of sounds. I know it ends up depending greatly on the synth, but a lot of concepts are universal (I'll know what I'm getting with a sine wave compared to a triangle, for example). I'm specifically having a lot of trouble with Sytrus, as it's just far too complex to twist dials on until something good comes out.
Does anyone have any advice? Are there tutorials on this specifically? How did you yourselves learn?
How do you learn synth-making technique?
