sound card/audio preferences

I've had this problem with a couple of cards now and various apps not just FL, the problem is the cards refuse to remain selected in audio preferences.

Every time I open an app that uses audio, I have to reselect my card again under audio preferences, it's really annoying and often I find that the audio preferences revert back to "windows audio" as soon as the preferences window is closed, it generally takes 4 or 5 attempts before the card wil remain selected.

As far as I know this is a good card, it's an Edirol ua 101 . . cost me a fair wack too.
