Long time FL Studio user is lost

Hey all. Maybe you can enlighten me. I'm a long time FL Studio producer user. I took some time off for real life stuff but I'm at it again. I'm having trouble with basics. I have a channel rack with 4 sounds. I want to transfer them as I activate them. You know, channel 1 is playing, add channel 2, 3 and 4 over time. And then I'll put some guitar over it but I'll be damned. I think I know how to do it but the whole damn thing plays in song mode. Can you help? It's like there's no way to add the channels in real time to the song mode and I swear I used to be able to do this without thinking about it. Now it's like umm.. I'm a noob again. Damn it lol.. Help would be appreciated.
