How to have a bunch of layers and everything still sound "smooth"

I am writing a song that has a lot layers. OK, well, maybe not a whole lot; but, nevertheless, my computer/FL Studio can't handle it. When I start adding more stuff, the pads start to have an LFO effect and the volume goes up and down. How do I get rid of this? How do I add a bunch of stuff and still have everything sound good? I want to get rid of all this LFO effect stuff (that's pretty much all it is). Please help!
