Master Volume Automation...

I keep running into this problem...

When I want to cut the beat out for stops in the verses for the artist, i take the Master volume and automate it to stop and a couple seconds continue again...but i want one or 2 sounds to continue through when I automate the volume and turn off all other sounds. If i have 35+ sounds in my mixer channel do i have to really choose each individual volume on the mixer and automate all of them besides the 2 i want to continue playing?
