What do the ones and zeros of a sample look like?

(I might be computer illiterate but...)

We always see wave representations of samples, but isn't the most accurate representation some formulation of 1s and 0s?

I'm interested as far as synthesis. For instance if you took 2 identical new and clean as possible operating systems, add a "clap" sound to one, then subtracted all the 1s and 0s from each computer that were identical you would have left a clap sound in ones and zeros (whatever that would look like). And if you actually wrote out in a paper note book the 1s and 0s of the clap sound, and hand carried to another computer, and could somehow enter it manually on another computer with an identical operating system, you would then have the identical "clap" sound on that computer without benefit of ever recording it, or using any normal means of transfer.

And furthermore, if you could look at several 1s and 0s patterns of what are considered "high quality" clap sounds (if there is such a thing), and compare all, eventually, could you put together an artificial synthesis of the clap sound in Carnegie Hall (let's say) -- just from knowing the common features?

I mean, the 1s and 0s are all there is or can be of a recorded sample on a computer at least, whereas, I'm not sure looking at a picture of a wave you can say, that's all there is to analyze.

Again, I might be computer illiterate...but happy to learn something new, if someone would clarify things.
