This thread has prompted me to do some research, because I'm in
the market for an SSD.
The technology is evolving very fast.
What applied to SSDs made a couple of years ago may not apply to
SSDs made today.
Especially ones that use the latest Sandforce controller chips.
A company called Other World Computing who make, among others,
the Mercury Extreme Pro SSD, equipped with the Sandforce SF-1200
controller chip which uses Sandforce Duraclass technology.
OWC claim it simply doesn't slow down over time, like other SSDs.
And, they say it uses 50% less power than other SSDs!
Because they market to Apple computers, specifically the Macbook Air,
( their website is eshop.macsales.com ) some people have thought their
SSDs were incompatible with PCs, but evidently that's not the case.
There's a review of the Mercury Extreme Pro on this site.
