Expanding Sounds / Place to understand jargon

I'm a total producer newb. I have one track that I mostly got the samples from some old LPs. When using this, everything sounds like it is coming from a middle sized square right in front of me. I want to 'EXPAND' this sound/square. There just seems to me too much audio area not being used. I hope I am clear. Anyone know a good plug-in or what not to use?

Also, anyone have a list of 'producer vocabulary' I could study? I notice I come across some concepts I do not understand. Is there a one-stop document or tutorial (musical thesaurus/production wiki?) available somewhere?
