Volume Issue When Selected Channel Plays Louder than Normal

I don't know what is going on but when I select a channel to work on whatever it may be (volume, a plug-in in the mixer of said channel), FL Studio plays the sample LOUDER. Therefore, any work I try to do with volume is useless because the DAW is playing it louder than it should be. Lately I have had to turn the volume (up or down) when I want to change and then click on another channel to hear the results. This is becoming too time consuming to continue. Any idea why this is happening?
