Just a few novice questions.

Hello,

I've been making a house remix and I've run into a few dilemmas.

1) A measure before the drop, all the instruments are supposed to cut out but one or two keep resonating. I want it to be totally silent. Then during that silence period there are two snaps. I've tried putting the automation clip of gain to zero here, but it is still audible anyway. How to I get them to fully cut out without turning the master volume all the way down?

2) If I sidechain the bass to the kick, does the effect only take place when the actual kick is happening or does it do it the whole time?
