Making that sub bass fat

Dear FL brethren,

I was looking for some advice on how to make a sub bass really boom in a track. I hear alot of trap and hip hop today where the sub is so loud and distorted that you can even hear it on Macbook speakers. How are the big guys doing this? Are they distorting/driving a sine + saw/square? Or is there some compression trick I'm unaware of... Any input would be great ....And If you think this is a dumb question or wanna trash hip hop or trap, please move on.
