I Need Help Making a Bitcrusher Wobble Bass

I know the basics of how to do it: take saw-based synth, automate a resonant lowpass filter, apply a bitcrusher. However, whenever I do it, it sounds really messy, fuzzy, and unpleasant. It sounds a little better when I don't use distortion, but it's still not as clear and crisp at some other bitcrusher basses I've heard.
