mute groups

I can't get mute groups to do anything. I want my hi hat samples (closed, pedal and open) to mute each other. I've tried setting all three to, say "003" as a mute group and the rest of the zones in the drumkit as "002" for example, and vice versa. It doesn't change anything.

If mute group doesn't do what I'm suggesting here, is there another simple way to achieve this in DirectWave?
