Direct Wave VSTi responds to controler but not MIDI playback data

This is a strange issue .... I'm using Direct Wave VSTi within Fairlight Dream2 CC-1 in a post-production environment. I can easily work with Direct Wave via an Akai LPK25 MIDI keyboard controller. MIDI data is recorded in the Fairlight. So far so good. Here's the issue ... upon playing back this MIDI data, Direct Wave does not respond ... at all ... nothing. I can substitute another VSTi (SampleTank for example) and play back the same MIDI data. Any thoughts? Must Direct Wave work within FL Studio to receive MIDI data or can it stand as a VSTi within another environment?

I really hope I'm just being stupid and that Direct Wave will work in this system. Direct Wave has all of the features I'm looking for as a Sound Designer. I hope to hear from you soon.
