FPC velocity mapping to note length

I'm trying to come up with a way to program a naturally-sounding hihats in FPC.
When a live drummer plays hihats, stronger strikes translate on only to louder sound but longer notes as well. Some of the drum machines, Battery, for example, allow mapping note velocities to multiple targets, including sample envelopes.

I can't find any direct way of doing that in FPC, so I'm thinking about a workaround. The approach I came up with (but haven't tried yet) is to use midiNotesToCC plugin to translate the HiHat's velocities to a CC event. And then use a limiter on the HiHat's mixer channel to dynamically adjust the sound envelope depending on that CC.

I wonder if anyone has done anything similar before, and if there is an easier way to do that.
