DROPBOX as an alternative to Collab?

Has anyone discussed using something like "Dropbox" as an alternative to partially what was offered by "Collab"? Dropbox, for those who are not familiar with it, is a free 2GB file-sharing disk space that you can INVITE other users from around the world to share. There are practical issues to using Dropbox, however. All of the users can be set to READ and WRITE files to the Dropbox area on a users computer. This means that, once invited into the group, when a user updates a file in the dropbox, ALL USERS computers are updated within a minute or so. This also means that a careless user could accidentally DELETE all of the files in a dropbox ON EVERYONE ELSE'S COMPUTER, if you are not careful. It's not perfect for collaboration, but it might do the trick.
