midi piano sustain pedal cuts off note....

I am new to Fl studio but learning fast... I play piano. I am using a Yamaha YPT-320 as a controller with a sustain pedal - It works great BUT when pressing the sustain pedal it does not sustain some notes and cuts them off if playing many keys. I have read all the post and still do not understand how to get this right. I have MIDI settings of FL, "support hold and sostenuto" option enabled because without it, it will not sustain. It is also on 'generic controller' because this is an older keyboard and has no usb connection.
Several post said the following:
"Search for CC64 in the browser, right click on it > Link to controller
a window appears, check the autodetect option.
Press the sustain pedal."

Can someone please give me a more defined place to find this in FL? I tried searching in the 'Browser' and everywhere else with no results. Sorry to sound so stupid...

OR the big question, IF I purchased a new midi controller that is supported does this problem disappear?

Thanks for help in advance!!
