external midi/ midi out problem

I'm trying to sequence midi sounds from my triton classic in FL studios. I read up on it and it seems like I have everything hooked up correctly. Here's the problem. When I add a midi out channel, I can hear both my triton sound (which i want) and also a patch that is inside/part of the midi out channel (I dont want to hear that). There's a button that says patch (which leads to a bank of 150 patches) on the midi out channel. I select (none) and the patch number shows up as ---, but i can still hear the grand piano or whatever patch was selected before I hit (none). Any ideas how to stop this so i can just hear and record my Korg Triton sounds? Thanks
