Novation LaunchKey49 issues

I have browsed all the threads about this keyboard and can't seem to get the InControl buttons or pads to light up. I have the MIDI settings correct. I read that when you open up a sample performance mode project, the pads should light up; mine don't. Pressing the mode buttons changes nothing. The instructions all say just press the correct InControl button the activate the pads or whatever. It doesn't work for me. Perhaps I have a bad keyboard....
