Roland E-15 MIDI controller setup

I have been playing live instruments for a long time now. I recently have bought a MIDI cable and I'm wanting to set up my old Roland E-15 as a MIDI controller in FL Studio. The short of it is I have absolutely no idea what I am doing with MIDI. I followed the tutorial for setup and it sees my controller cable but I'm just not getting any output into FL Studio (I can only assume it's because of my MIDI ignorance) anyway.... Can someone help me out with this?
