How to Setup the BCF2000 to Control FL Studio 8's Mixer

More than a little late, but better late than never. (Sometimes life gets in the way of doing the things you enjoy most!)

For those who do not like reading instructions (myself included), here is a video tutorial that I put together on YouTube for setting up the BCF2000 for use in FL Studio 8. For all those motorized fader nonbelievers out there (I'm only a recent convert), it includes a quick demo of the motorized faders and encoders in action, controlling the FL Studio mixer. I'm presently working on a follow-up video that will provide a more detailed demonstration of the BCF2000 controlling the FL Studio mixer, including setting up sends (using only the BCF2000), controlling the built-in track eq of the mixer, full transport control, jog wheel functionality, loading and arming Edison to record with the push of a button on the BCF2000, stereo separation, FX mix levels and more.

And now for the written instructions:

Here is a quick step-by-step set of instructions to help you get the motorized faders of the BCF2000 working properly in FL Studio 8. Follow these steps and you will have comprehensive control over the mixer in Fl Studio 8 using the BCF2000.

1. Download and install the latest drivers and firmware updates from Behringer's website under product support for the BCF2000. Also download the BCFView utility, which is available on the same product support page as the drivers and firmware updates. BCFView will come in handy when you are controlling the FL Studio mixer with the BCF2000.

2. Power up the BCF2000 in a special hardware emulation mode. There are 4 emulation modes. Mackie Control Mapping for Cubase and Nuendo is the mode that works best for FL Studio. Hold down the second button from the left in the top row of buttons on the BCF2000 while pressing the power button. Release the second button once the unit powers up. If you have timed this step correctly the display of the BCF2000 should read "n C C". The unit is now in "Mackie Control Mapping for Cubase and Nuendo" emulation mode. The next time the unit is powered up it will remain in the same emulation mode. If you do not see "nc c", then repeat Step 2 again.

3. The next step is to setup the BCF2000 from the MIDI Settings page of FL Studio 8. Access the MIDI Settings page by locating it under OPTIONS or by hitting the keyboard shortcut F10.

4. Locate "BCF2000[1]" as an available hardware device in the Output section of the MIDI Settings page. Click on it to highlight it. Mouse over to the box beside Port number, click and scroll up to change the MIDI hardware port for the BCF2000[1] to 102. It MUST be set to 102. If you do not see the BCF[1]2000 listed as an available hardware device in MIDI Settings, make sure the unit is powered on and then try clicking "Rescan MIDI devices" located at the bottom of the MIDI Settings page.

5. Locate "BCF2000[1]" as an available controller in the Input section of MIDI Settings. Click on it to highlight it. Activate it by clicking on the Enable button. Then change the Controller type by selecting "Mackie Control Universal" from the drop down Controller type menu (the black rectangular box directly below the Input section of the MIDI settings page).

6. Now enjoy almost total control of the FL Studio mixer directly from the comfort of your BCF2000. To add to your enjoyment, run the BCFView utility while you are controlling the mixer. It provides a virtual LCD display on your computer screen that helps you see exactly what insert track and parameter you are currently controlling with the BCF2000.
