Live updates on homepage from calendar/guestbook/facebook?

Hi.
I want to put in my sidebar where if someone posts an update on the calendar or adds a guestbook comment it will show up on homepage in this sidebar.

I have an iFrame in there with the calendar followed from the how to section already but I'm worried how this is going to look once people start posting.

Assuming that it works ok, I don't know how to accomplish this for guestbook comments and facebook posts.

Basically I just want a text update on the front page. Can I do this with rss?
