Making a chorus from a single voice

Yeah, I know there is Fruity chorus.

It's not quite the same sound as you would get from recording a number of voices in a studio or from in a concert hall. The effect is too artificial? (I wait to be corrected of course by example)

(I'm using "voice" in the generic sense, as in instrument too)

I figure people have tried (probably many times) to turn a single voice into many voices with various degrees of success. So, I'm wondering if someone has already worked out a method using the FL interface to best create a realistic chorus?

(also, I just had an odd thought, that what we consider "chorus" effect for synths is possibly as unreal too, as the actual sound you would get if you assembled a dozen identical synth instruments in a studio with seperate speaker outputs for each and recorded the group of them playing. It wouldn't necessarily sound like what we hear now. Not that it matters, I just thought it was interesting)
