USB 2.0 card not letting me install anything(Urgent!!!)

Hey guys i have a usb card the got installed by my computer fixer. He brought it back to my house awhile back and said it was fine but it doesnt recognize any usb that i put into it. What is the cause of this i dont knw the name of the card either there was a box but it got thrown out in the rubbish. Help me please sum1
