Need help from the Pro's on here for my dissertation.

I am doing a thesis in the analysis recreation processes of old trance tracks that i have listened too over the years for my FYP in college.
I would be interested in getting some information of people who are in the know how on this type of process in recreating these classic sounds in Trance music.
Things i would like to know:

1)What analysis vsts work well for this action.
2)Where you start from - as your personal preference.
3)Your measurement process for envelopes while recreating the sound. (like how could you see the Env in a Spectrum type of scenario)
4)Other elements that would be needed.

Any help on this subject could be detrimental too me passing and getting my degree. Im panicking a bit and resorting to FL users hearts strings. maybe some of my older friends on here will help me out.
