I use an EWI (electric wind controller) and use CC#2 to control filter cutoff, but after 7 bars the MIDI control grinds to a halt, as if it's overloading the system.
In this clip I'm playing steady quarter notes on the synth (GM Synth, with CC#2 controlling the filter cutoff) along with the bass drum but in measure 8 the synth comes to a grinding halt. Skip to :15 to hear the problem.
