Audio clip pitch automation tutorial or details?

Hi,

Opening an audio clip or recording offers automation for volume, pan and pitch. Volume and pan sort of make sense - though there's no scale to indicate what, level/left/right, is where visually, which I've already requested for all automation clips - but personally I would really appreciate a video tutorial or detailed description in the manual on what is happening with, and how to use, the pitch control.

It seems it isn't truly a pitch control because it is speeding up or slowing down (lengthening or shortening) the clip to alter the pitch accordingly. Is that what is happening? Completely understandable if it is but a tutorial or full explanation would really help.

Visually, the representation of the wave form and its relationship with the tempo beat/bar lines shown doesn't make sense to me either. Also, the final pitch end point for one clip seems to remain as the pitch point for the next audio clip, though no adjustment may have been made to that clip. Why does this happen when these automation controls are presented as edit controls for each particular clip - they are not presented as overall channel controls as other automation clips are.

A tutorial/explanation would really help with these queries. Thanks.
