Today, I decided to try fiddling with some external MIDI instruments (a
Waldorf Pulse 2, an
AudioThingies MicroMonsta, a
Modal Craft Synth, and a
Mutable Instruments Ambika). Three of the instruments, the Craft, MicroMonsta, and Pulse 2, were set up to receive MIDI (including clock) over USB. The Ambika receives MIDI via 5-pin DIN (including clock). Everything works fine until I start playback. All of a sudden, the sound from the MicroMonsta and the Ambika is a whole note down from where it should be. I stop playback.. and the pitch goes back to normal. If I start playback and toggle off the "Send MIDI pan / vol / pitch" option in the MIDI Out, it sounds fine again. This only happens with the MicroMonsta and Ambika and only in FL Studio. I tested all instruments in FL, Logic, Bitwig, and Renoise. Only weirdness is with the MicroMonsta and Ambika and only in FL.
Steps to reproduce:
- Open FL Studio and create a new project from the Empty template
- Verify in MIDI settings that the MicroMonsta is set up to receive MIDI on port 3 and has master sync enabled
- Add a MIDI Out to the channel rack, set the port to 3
- In the mixer, in Insert 1, set the Audio Input Source to the input my MicroMonsta is connected to
- Play some notes. Note that the pitch is correct.
- Press spacebar to start playback and play some notes. Note that the pitch is a whole step down from where it was previously.
- Stop playback and play some notes. Pitch is back to where it should be.
- Start playback and play notes while toggling on/off the "Send MIDI pan / vol / pitch" option in MIDI Out. Note that pitch changes dependent on the setting.
Let me know if there is any other info I can provide to help you diagnose this issue. It's a weird one!
