Can I use Deckadance for what I need?

Recently our group decided not to use a dj because we can't really find a good one that can always be available when we have shows. Sometimes the places we play at have house djs but other times they do not. We don't want to just give the sound guy an ipod because then there is no control over the music at all.

What I am trying to figure out is if we can use Deckadance to provide the performers with a way of playing the setlist with some control and maybe some effects. So my main question is:

Can you setup Deckadance to basically function as a glorified ipod allowing the performer to possibly pause, loop or apply specified effects by the push of a button? In other words can you use a controller that is not even really a dj controller......something more like a launch pad and then just learn midi triggers that will allow for some control/effects? I know that on the surface this might sound kind of lame but they are not supposed to look like a dj at all nor are we trying to take shortcuts. They are both vocalists and move around a lot. We just need a little station off to the side of the stage.

If you have any suggestions about how we can accomplish this I would greatly appreciate it. At first I was thinking Ableton but it's so expensive and we really don't need all of that functionality. Thanks for your time.

Deckadance should work fine for that. Don't let...
