midi sync for mpc

I have been trying with zero success to sync the FL with my mpc 2000. Once I make all the connections and change the settings, the mp says it is waiting for time code and the FL never syncs or starts the mpc. I have read many forums and viewed many youtube videos, but I can't get this working. What do I need to do?
