assigning controllers on midi out plugin to multiple channels

Hi I am having trouble assigning a controller to different instances of the midi out plugin where each instance is target a different midi channel. I can link knobs to controllers on channel 1 only. But nothing happening when I select a second instance of the plugin and its point to channel 2, 3 etc. I tried assigning as omni still nothing. Yes its montage related. Each channel represents a part on the keyboard. So If I want to record realtime automation turning the cutoff knob on part 3 its not possible. But part 1 (Channel 1) I can do that all day long.
