Cannot record mic input and midi simultaneously

Hi everyone. I have my computer set up to record audio and also MIDI input. While I can record each of these separately, I cannot get them to reliably record simultaneously.

This is what I am doing:
1. Launch FL Studio
2. Set the input on insert 2 to the 'Windows Record L - Windows Record R' (for my Creative sound-card)
3. Add a MIDI instrument (such as FPC) and select it
4. Select Insert 2 in the mixer (the one with the mic input)
5. Set the playback mode to 'Song' instead of 'Pattern'
6. Click record and select 'Everything'
7. Hit play

Result:
Both audio and MIDI record just fine.

8. Hit start again

Result:
Just MIDI is recorded this time. It doesn't matter if I re-select 'Record Everything' at this point.
