This thread has recently (October 2018) been bumped, but nothing has changed to the song I posted on Soundcloud for a long time (since May 2018).
However, Epic Audio has uploaded a mix of this song (latest version is from October 2018 here)! Thanks a lot! We'd both love to hear your thoughts on the mix.
All Soundcloud links point to my latest version!
I've left the original post below for context.
THANKS FOR READING!
Been feeling a bit uninspired lately. After mucking around with some half-finished projects for the past weeks, I came up with a rough little ditty yesterday while I had the house to myself. I think the arrangement is mostly done. My primary aim is to get the arrangement wrapped up and tidy up the drums before I think about mixing anything.
It's still a bit rough in places, I'm hoping for feedback on a few things in particular:
- Is it too samey? Or is it short enough to get away with it?
- Are the drums too busy? I've tempered them a bit.
- The verse vocals are pretty iffy. I'm not really sure how the verse needs to be delivered tbh, which is probably my biggest problem when I was recording. That, and I didn't know the lyrics yet... Messed them up a few times at the start. Not really convinced by the verses myself, but not sure what to do better apart from hit the notes... Any idea what type of vocal performance this needs, bearing in mind that singing isn't my forte?
- Is the break out of place? I quite like it, and think the song needs something to shake it up just a bit around here. Is it too bare? I like the contrast myself. Edit: Based on feedback from zippy, I have since reworked the break. I've humanised the drums a bit, reworked the synth parts and added velocities, and tried to make the transition back to the guitars for the outro smoother
- The beginning was very sudden until not very long ago. Is it still an issue? Would it be better with one instrumental loop through before the singing comes in? Or does it make sense?
