This was for a project where I had to do a main title sequence theme for a psychological-thriller film. It had to follow the sequence accordingly so that's where the form comes from. Hope you guys like it!
Some compositional notes:
I was trying to create a dark and ominous sound without sounding too "evil" or mechanical. I used some polytonal harmonic ideas and independent chord voicing without any real harmonic functionality. This can create that feeling of suspense, mystery and disturbingly complex emotions which is exactly what I was trying to captivate with this particular track. I started with a low pedal and used the independent chords in the accompaniment and of course I had to create some sort of lyrical/melodic line.
For the opening I used these chords:
Cm - Cm(9) (#11) (ma7) ------ You could also call that: Cm B(b13)/C
Then after that I begin some sort of "chord progression" that doesn't really serve any sort of harmonic function:
Cm - B - Bm - Gm
Other than that, melodic lines and other ornamental ambiguities that I added were to create full sounds to emphasize the chord motion and create the atmosphere for the film.
If any of you have questions and/or comments about this track production and compositional wise please don't hesitate to post in this topic! Thanks!
